GIRLS Project
First Aid Project

The first aid project involves teaching first aid in and around the capital city of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar and in several rural areas of the country. A team of 8 trained volunteers from the United Kingdom will be working with a number of NGOs, orphanages and organisations, including CYPPD, the State Orphanage, the Development Alliance and Lotus Orphanage, to teach first aid to disadvantaged and homeless children and social workers. Some time will also be spent teaching first aid to children at the Tsoglog Summer Camp in Batsumber Soum, Tov aimag.

Adobe Youth Voices

The Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) program has been instrumental in increasing CYPPD’s ability to incorporate the use of media in its programs. After completing the AYV online course to learn technical media-making skills, as well as techniques for teaching these skills to youth, the CYPPD staff was able to help program participants use media to explore and share their views on the challenges faced by children in their community. Through the program, children wrote, filmed, directed, and acted in short films about the risk of abuse and trafficking and the difference between the life of a child laborer from their slum community and the life of a child from a more privileged background.

CURRENT PROJECTS

With the support of Canadian organization Foundation Dufresne Gauther (FDG), CYPPD is currently implementing the 'Development and Socialization of Children Involved in the Worst Forms of Child Labour' project at the Tsoglog Centre in Bayanzurkh District of Ulaanbaatar. Through this project, children and young people involved in child labour are able to come to our centre and receive a variety of services, including: psychosocial counseling, career guidance and advice, awareness raising training and access to professional singing, music and dance instruction.

In 2012, CYPPD partnered with Akosia and Project Mongolia to implement a film-making project with 25 participants, in which they learned technical skills such as set design, character development, storyboarding, screen writing, acting, filming, directing and editing. Their film entitled ‘The Money That Brought the Ghosts’ examines how alcohol abuse and greed can lead to devastating and violent acts which can ruin relationships. In 2013, CYPPD, Akosia and Project Mongolia will implement a second creative project which will focus on storytelling, photography and illustration.

In partnership with Edinburgh Global Partnerships and Project Mongolia, CYPPD has been running the annual Tsoglog Summer Camp since 2007. Since that time, over 1,500 disadvantaged children have attended the camp, giving these children the opportunity to leave behind their harsh lives in the city and enjoy their adolescence in a safe and supportive environment. During the Summer Camp, the children engage in activities such as dance, swimming, singing, sports, art, nature walks and also participate in awareness raising training on issues such as child rights and child labour.

Funded by the Global Fund for Children, CYPPD's Girls' Project is currently working with 40 girls that are at high risk of, or have already experienced sexual abuse or sexual exploitation. The project delivers rehabilitative services, including medical care, psychological counseling and awareness raising training on a variety of topics such as Child Rights, Child Labour, and Reproductive Health. Furthermore, the girls participate in social and personal development activities such as music, art, sports, dance and self-esteem building classes.
