Our mission is “to protect vulnerable children and to support them in their development as equal and harmonious citizens”...

Child Protection Program

The Child Protection Program works with international and national donors towards the removal, rehabilitation and protection of children that are at a high-risk of or are involved in the Worst Forms of Child Labour (i.e. activities such as the trafficking of children, the commercial sexual exploitation of children and any work that by its nature is likely to harm the health, safety or morals of children). CYPPD is currently working with children that work at the black marketplaces, construction sites, those that scavenge the large dump areas of Ulaanbaatar and specifically girls that have been victims of sexual exploitation and abuse – providing access to health and education services, skills development and psychosocial support. CYPPD not only works with the children and their families, but works to influence the broader community by raising public awareness of  children’s rights, and developing the capacity of other key social actors (such as khoroo police officers, social workers and marketplace authorities) in preventing and responding to violations of children’s rights.

Child Development Program

Whilst recognising the importance of immediate needs such as the provision of food and clothes, the Children’s Development Program has responded to research undertaken by CYPPD that shows that a significant motivation factor for the children to participate in non-formal education is having the opportunity to enjoy recreational activities – a simple pleasure that a child is often deprived of when engaged in child labour. The largest part of the Children’s Development Program is supporting disadvantaged children’s access to activities such as dancing, music, singing, art and self-esteem building activities. The Tsoglog Socialisation Centre provides a safe, friendly and fun environment for this to take place. From 2007, CYPPD in partnership with Edinburgh Global Partnerships and Project Mongolia, has invited over 1300 disadvantaged children to participate in the annual Tsoglog Summer Camp – a platform for recreation, relaxation and awareness raising trainings – taking place in the beautiful Mongolian countryside, just three hours north from Ulaanbaatar.

Capacity Development Program

Through CYPPD’s Capacity Development Program, CYPPD seeks to establish and maintain partnerships with international volunteering programs such as Edinburgh Global Partnerships, Project Mongolia, the Voluntary Service Overseas program and the Australian Volunteers for International Development program. Through such partnerships, CYPPD sees the opportunity for mutual learning and skill development across cultures. CYPPD also works with National volunteers, giving young Mongolians the opportunity to acquire new skills and contribute to CYPPD’s work to support disadvantaged children and youth. In 2004, CYPPD became a member of ECPAT (End of Child Prostitution and Trafficking) and in 2008, became the coordinating organisation for the National Network Against Children’s Worst Forms of Labour. Furthermore, CYPPD was awarded the City’s Child Friendly Organisation Award in 2010.
